We’ve been waiting on the supposed music video for “Space Bound”, the supposed fourth single from Recovery for quite some time now and I don’t think I’m alone when I say, the wait is becoming tedious.
I don’t know if this is just Em and his team carrying out their usual strategy whereby they build intense anticipation by letting out as little detail as possible, and making people wait and wait, to build mystery and suspense and then all of a sudden… lay it on us. Or, whether the video is being continuously edited, whether they’re trying to push new visual boundaries (which could justify the time being taken) or whether it’s in the bag and they’re holding it for other reasons. Perhaps to let “I Need a Doctor” have its full glory first. Maybe so.
But some more pictures have slipped through the cracks, this time they’re not set pics but in fact screenshots of the video itself. Well, some are screenshots and then there’s a few with a green screen in the background which means they must be set pics of the unedited video but… they’re not set pics in the sense that they’re pics of Em and Sasha sitting around. They appear to be ‘in’ the video…
I did say that they could be trying to “push new visual boundaries” and the only reason I made this speculation is that, somebody within the industry or close to the Shady team – I believe the guy who owns Rap Radar tweeted a few months back when news first broke of the video shoot, and I believe he used the phrase “visually stunning” to describe the video they were making.
Also, I know videos supposedly take a while to edit, anywhere from a few weeks to a few months? I mean… that’s a guess, but, it’s a figure I’ve heard that sounds about right, logically speaking, in relation to the scale and length of the average music video. But even so, this timescale seems to be dragging on and on and just when it looks like it’s right around the corner a new picture or piece of info slips that suggests they’re ‘just beginning’ edit the video or something. It’s like a cruel joke lmao.
There’s also the possibility that they’re tying to hold-out and release it in late May, or even June, just to make the main line in the chorus “250,000 miles on a clear night in a June” luckily relevant by the time it’s a presumed hit. And, from a few of those diner scenes and night shots, I get the sense they’re going for a luscious, warm summer vibe, what do you think?
Anyway, I’m looking forward to it and hope I’m not disappointed. If it ever comes.
